Medical devices
In general, all products that are manufactured to be used for medical purposes. A medical device must, among other things, detect, relieve, prevent, treat, monitor or compensate for a disease, a disability or an injury.
Examples of medical devices
For example, bandages, crutches, stethoscopes, X-ray machines or surgical instruments; pretty much everything that is used for medical purposes.
Medical devices for in vitro diagnostics
For example, test tubes, bottles, microtiter plates and petri dishes.
What do the different classifications mean for medical devices?
Medical devices are divided into 4 classes: Class I, Class IIa, Class IIb and Class III. The higher the risk to patient safety, the higher the classification.
