Packaging and logistics
Customers’ needs and AMB’s production with many different processes create complex flows that require good planning and place high demands on both internal and external logistics.
Internal logistics
The efficient management and control of material flows and other manufacturing resources need to be constantly developed to keep down both delivery times and costs. Through a customized ERP system and deep knowledge of our integrated processes, AMB ensures optimized flows through the factory until delivery and onwards to the customer anywhere in the world.
In addition, for medical devices classified products, the flows must be adapted to the so-called regulatory requirements (laws and regulations). For example, all raw materials and semi-finished products must be checked, documented and released on the way into the factory as well as the finished products on the way out. In order for this to work, the logistics department must also work closely with the quality department, which alone is authorized to handle this special and very carefully documented procedure.
External logistics
More and more customers want to concentrate on their core competences and therefore want the suppliers to take over some of their planning and logistics in order to achieve mutual value creation in the supply chain. AMB has extensive experience and knowledge of various systems that handle parts of customers’ warehouses, called VMI. This frees up the customer’s time and focus and through common objectives, the needs are defined and met by inventory levels, replenishment and the like.
The physical deliveries are often also customer controlled and AMB collaborates with various partners who offer daily pick-up to find the best solutions together with the customer. Several customers have facilities in different parts of the world where deliveries need to be coordinated.
Another way to interact with customers faster and more efficiently is through EDI. AMB cooperates in various ways through EDI where, for example, the customer sends their order digitally and then receives their order confirmation and delivery message digitally from AMB.
Packaging
Many resources can be saved through optimized packaging. Together with both customers and suppliers, we are constantly working to find the best solutions, including the lean methodology. Sometimes new solutions must be tested for a longer period of time and the outcome evaluated. In several cases, this has resulted in just as good performing packaging as reduced time, weight and material.
