Disinfection and sterilization are two different processes for reducing the number or eliminating microorganisms on surfaces, instruments, or materials. During disinfection, the number of microorganisms is reduced to a level that is safe. Sterilization eliminates (almost) all forms of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi and spores.
