Broakulla, north of Emmaboda in the southeast of Sweden, is home to AMB, the experts in the surface treatment of plastics. In recent years AMB has also become a high-tech manufacturer of medical devices. The company\u2019s first cleanroom was commissioned in 2008, but no longer has space for new projects. To expand that part of the operation, the family-owned company is now investing almost SEK 50 million \u2013 one of the single biggest investments in the company\u2019s 70-year history.<\/p>\n
\u201cMedical technology is our largest business area, and also the one with the strongest growth,\u201d says Tomas Magnusson, CEO and partner. \u201cAs recently as three years ago, we invested SEK 34 million in a fully automated assembly cell unique to the product \u2013 needlestick protected, single use devices, which also meant we fully occupied our existing cleanroom. It\u2019s therefore natural that we prepare space for new projects through new, larger production areas.\u201d
\nBut because AMB has no more space under its 12,000 sq. m roof, we\u2019re waiting for a 2,500 sq. m extension, in which the new cleanroom will take up 830 sq. m. The investment also includes several new injection moulding machines and automated equipment.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re currently negotiating with several new cleanroom customers. We\u2019ll see which project will be the first when the new cleanroom is ready by early summer next year,\u201d says Tomas Magnusson.<\/p>\n
In time it might also mean new jobs, mainly for process and production technicians. Today, AMB has 157 employees.<\/p>\n
